A note from the editors

This mid-year edition of our newsletter informs you in detail about the up-coming SIOP conference together with the ICCCPO parent meeting. Please note that there will have to be elections for some members of the board at the Annual Assembly meeting. If you are interested or you know of a good candidate for the board please let us know (secretariat or directly to Sadie Cutland, who is heading the election mommittee).
The board met this Spring in Barcelona for a busy weekend. We took a few pictures which we will include in this edition to make you more familiar with the different board members, especially those who joint only recently.
We are also discussing a possible different format of our newsletter for which we are asking your input. Editing, printing and mailing the newsletter is - even though it is a very simple version - relatively costly for ICCCPO. And there remains the question whether it really gets to the reader (parents all over the world) as it is in English. We have the feeling that it may end on the desk of group leaders who do not find the time to translate the content nor do they forward copies as they feel English will not be understood by most of their members. We are thus discussing with the British national organization NACCPO to use the infra structure for their newsletter "Contact" to get a more professional lay-out for a condensed version of the newsletter which "Contact" would also be willing to set-up in different languages if they would get the translation from each group. That transfer could easily be done via electronic mail exchange. This way each nation could include one or two pages "International news" in their own news magazines - and in their own language. The full content of the news letter would be available for down loading on the ICCCPO website for any reader at any time.
We need your comments to this offer. Please send us your response best via eMail: dlfhbonn@t-online.de or mcnaafs.vokk@wxs.nl

Interactive, multimedia CD-ROM

Hello!
I would like to inform you about the new interactive, multimedia CD-ROM for children with leukemia (especially ages 4-11), their families and friends. This CD educates 4-11 year-olds and adults about leukemia - its diagnosis and treatment. This research project was funded by National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health.

The CD-ROM, entitled "Kidz with Leukemia: A Space Adventure" won an award at the Tech Games in DC earlier this year. It has been reviewed by many of the nation's leading experts in the field of pediatric oncology, as well as by children with
leukemia and their families.

A dollar from the sale of each CD is being donated to Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation.
Thank you, and I look forward to a response from you soon.
